Reach Out to School Nurses

We're providing materials to help school nurses recognize CFS. Will you share them with school nurses in your region?

School nurses witness the course of children's and teachers' illnesses, putting them in a key position to help encourage early, appropriate diagnosis of CFS. Nurses are also equipped to help children with CFS and their families cope with chronic illness and plan constructively to maintain educational progress and socialization.

We're asking those who care about CFS to print the attached PDF file and either take or mail it to their local school nurses. It includes a cover letter introducing CFS and the resources available from The CFIDS Association of America, and an article from School Nurse News, in which Dr. David Bell describes the diagnosis and treatment of CFS in kids.

TO PRINT THE FILE:  Make sure to select the printer icon in the Adobe Acrobat window immediately above the article, rather than selecting Print from the File menu on your browser.  If you experience problems with printing the PDF file, downloading a more current version of Adobe Acrobat should correct the problem.

We hope that by alerting school nurses to the symptoms of CFS and the resources available, more patients will receive the support they need, early in their illness.

For more information about this project, please contact Terri Lupton, BSS, RN, Coordinator for Educational Opportunities, or contact Rebecca Moore c/o the Association's youth program, at youth@cfids.org.
