Update on UK’s Medical Research Council’s proposal on a
research strategy for CFS/ME
A
draft of a research strategy for CFS/ME was released in 2002 by an independent
Research Advisory Group set up by the United Kingdom’s (UK’s) Medical Research
Council (MRC). The strategy was developed in response to a request by the Chief
Medical Officer for MRC and issued for public comment in December.
The completed strategy was published on
May 1, 2003 and makes recommendations for research that will lead to greater
understanding of CFS/ME and advances in patient care. It focuses on a number of
key strategic themes including case definition, an epidemiological framework,
pathophysiology and health services research.
