On behalf of the Board of the CFIDS Association of America, I want to express my deepest gratitude to you for your ongoing interest in our cause.

We rely heavily upon unrestricted gifts from individual donors to serve the CFS community in countless ways year-round. As a matter of fact, in a typical year, excluding government contracts for specific projects, gifts from individuals like you comprise 83% of our operating budget. For example:

Unrestricted gifts make it possible t obtain free myth-shattering information about CFS through our Resource Line, website and “kNOw MORE CFS” seminars. We distribute thousands of pieces of free literature and talk to hundreds of patients and family members each year.

Unrestricted gifts make it possible for the Association to advocate on your behalf, bringing vital issues to the attention of Congress and federal agencies.

Unrestricted gifts make it possible for the Association to reach out to health care providers with thorough, medically sound information about the diagnosis and treatment of CFS.

Unrestricted gifts make it possible for the Association to accelerate the pace of research so that treatments and, ultimately, a cure can finally be found.

In summary, these gifts give hope to the millions of Americans like me who struggle daily with this mysterious and debilitating illness.

In light of the critical importance of individual donors like you, I’d like to invite you to join the Chairman’s Circle—donors pledging to make gifts on a monthly basis. From a practical standpoint, you might look at it as I do: as a way of stretching out our financial support of the Association over an entire year. Perhaps it might even provide an opportunity to increase your gift without feeling the pinch all at once.

For example, if you made a monthly gift of $25, your annual gift would be $300. If your monthly gift were $34, your annual gift could increase to $408.

You will no longer receive yearly appeals for the Annual Fund drive. And your cumulative gift could make a bigger impact than your present level of giving.

The Association and your bank will take care of the rest automatically. The strongest possible security measures are in place when your electronic transfers occur each month.

From the Association’s standpoint, the Chairman’s Circle provides an important, stable stream of income we can count on to cover operating and program-related costs regardless of the natural ebb and flow of other donations throughout the year.

Of course, it’s not just about paying the bills. It’s about fulfilling our mission. If I leave you with nothing else today, I want you to remember this promise: the CFIDS Association is doing everything possible to conquer this disease.

But we cannot do it without the help of our donors. With additional resources, we can keep the momentum building until CFS is conquered once and for all. We shall stop at nothing less.
