Cytokine Gene Variations and Illness Response
The December issue of the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases published a study examining the impact of variations in specific cytokine genes that are critical to the early immune response--specifically looking at how these variations affect the severity and duration of illness following acute infection with Epstein-Barr virus, coxiella burnetii (the causative agent of Q fever) or Ross River virus.
