Association News
Activities and opportunities from The CFIDS Association of America

Association partners with Amazon.com
To provide members with more information about CFIDS and raise money to help conquer the illness, the Association entered into a strategic partnership with Amazon.com.

A direct link to Amazon now appears on the Association’s home page, and when you make any purchase from Amazon.com via www.cfids.org, the Association receives 5% to 15% of the total purchase price. So if you regularly shop Amazon.com, please stop first at www.cfids.org and access their site through the link on our home page.

Annual report charts progress
Members who donated more than $50 to the Association (in addition to their membership fee) in 2000 will be receiving a copy of the 2000 Annual Report, which details actions the Association has taken and provides an overview of progress in accelerating the fight against CFIDS.

It also gratefully acknowledges those who made a financial contribution to support our vital work. This year’s report introduces two new donor recognition levels for annual giving and two new lifetime giving groups, The Iverson Society and The President’s Club, to better recognize the generosity of our donors.

The Annual Report is available at no charge to all who request a copy and will be posted on our Web site (www.cfids.org) this summer.

Association president receives award
K. Kimberly Kenney, President and CEO of The CFIDS Association of America, has been honored by The American Association for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Kenney was awarded the Special Service Award for her work in raising awareness of CFIDS Jan. 27, 2001 in Seattle, Wash.

Kenney led efforts to secure an effective response to CFIDS from the federal government and played a key role in bringing the misuse of CFIDS research money by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to light. She has also initiated research, education, and public relations programs to raise the profile of CFIDS as a real medical condition.

Kenney, who recently marked 10 years of service with the Association, said when accepting the award "The wait [for a cure] has been too long already for those whose lives have been diminished by CFIDS. It is essential that we become the catalyst, that each of us finds a way to extend to others our understanding of how devastating CFIDS can be."

Kenney then issued a challenge to the group of researchers, physicians, and others gathered at the awards banquet to broaden public awareness, expand scientific inquiry, improve federal responsiveness, and deepen personal empathy.

Snapshots of CFIDS
Members who wish to order large quantities of the Association’s publication Snapshots of CFIDS can now obtain a laser print copy to photocopy instead of purchasing individual copies. A $2 charge covers postage and handling. To order, contact the Association.

New Fact Sheets Available
Two new CFIDS fact sheets, both convenient and inexpensive to reproduce, are now available.

The pediatric fact sheet is aimed at helping individuals and support groups educate schools and nurses, and the CFIDS and women fact sheet highlights issues unique to women.
