Spreading the word
The CFIDS Association is broadening its
message about
CFIDS to the general health care community. On May 20-21, Vicki Walker participated in a National Institute
of Mental Health (NIMH) meeting on the mental health impacts and dimensions of illness (such as HIV, cancer
and chronic pain). On June 13-14, Vicki attended the Society for Women’s Health Research Congress on Women’s
Health and Gender-Based Medicine. On June 27-28, the Association distributed information about CFIDS to
the 1,500 attendees of the National Association of School Nurses Conference. And Aug. 8-11, Kim Kenney
will host a booth at the National Area Health Education Centers meeting in Louisville, Kty.
The
Association’s goal in attending these meetings is to promote the profile of CFIDS as a serious, disabling
illness. We hope to expand our outreach efforts to scientists, clinicians and allied health professionals
at future meetings and have applied for grant funding to help support these activities.
