The Senate is expected to vote on the 2008 Labor, Health and Human Services and Education (LHHS) appropriations bill the week of October 15. Please urge your Senators to support this bill with no new amendments. It contains vital increases in funding for the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Diseaes Control & Prevention. Thanks to the work of the CFIDS Association and 2007 Lobby Day participants, the report that accompanies this bill also provides important Congressional direction for CFS programs at NIH and CDC. This directive language only takes effect if the bill is passed.  Visit http://www.cfids.org/advocacy/fy08-appropriations.pdf to view the requests made for this year's appropriations bill.

President Bush has threatened to veto appropriations bills if together they exceed his proposed budget total. Funding in the Senate LHHS bill is $11 billion more than proposed in President's 2008 budget. An important step in convincing the President to sign the LHHS bill will be strong bipartisan support for the bill in the Senate. Let your Senators know that investing in the NIH, CDC, and other LHHS programs are important to you as someone whose life has been affected by CFS and investments in research and prevention are needed now to improve the health, well-being and longevity of all Americans.

Take action now to ensure strong bipartisan support for the LHHS bill in the Senate!
